Job Purpose

We are seeking an experienced Employment Lawyer to join a Legal Services team on a temporary to permanent basis (subject to application).

You will provide high-quality legal advice across employment matters, manage a varied caseload, prepare cases for hearings as required.

The role will involve working closely with client departments, senior officers, and external stakeholders, while supporting the Senior and Principal Lawyers and contributing to wider projects.

Working Arrangements - May require 1 day per week in the office.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice on employment matters.
• Manage and progress a varied caseload.
• Draft pleadings and other legal documents.
• Prepare for and attend court and tribunal hearings.
• Work closely with Council departments, senior officers, and external Counsel.
• Support corporate projects and recruitment-related legal work.
• Supervise junior staff where appropriate.
• Maintain accurate case records and meet agreed deadlines.

Qualifications and Experience

• Qualified Solicitor.
• Relevant post-qualification experience in and strong knowledge of employment law.
• Experience using Microsoft Word and electronic case management systems.
• Local government experience is desirable.
• Senior-Level Experience.
• Candidates should have extensive/substantial experience, including complex casework, and the ability to conduct complex matters with minimal supervision and supervise junior staff.
